Frequently asked questions
Is my text uploaded or stored anywhere?
No. Every count, keyword table and text transform is calculated by JavaScript inside your own browser. Your text never travels to a server, is never stored in a database and never leaves your device. You can even turn off your Wi-Fi after the page has loaded and the tool will keep working.
How are words, characters, sentences and paragraphs counted?
Words are groups of letters and numbers separated by spaces or punctuation (“don’t” and “well-known” count as one word). Characters are counted twice: once including spaces and line breaks, and once without any whitespace. Sentences are counted by full stops, question marks, exclamation marks and line breaks. Paragraphs are the non-empty lines in your text, so blank lines and trailing whitespace never inflate the totals.
How are the reading and speaking times estimated?
Reading time assumes a comfortable 200 words per minute, and speaking time assumes a steady 130 words per minute — the usual figures for presentations and voice-over. Short or highly technical texts often take longer, so treat both numbers as a guide rather than a promise.
What does the character limit mode do?
Turn on “Character limit” and enter a target such as 280 for a tweet or 160 for a meta description. The counter shows how many characters with spaces you have left, turns amber as you approach the limit and red once you are over it. It never blocks your typing — it is purely a live guide, so you can keep writing and trim afterwards.
